Britney Spears and Paris Hilton have been voted the Worst Celebrity Role Models of 2006 in a joint poll between Associated Press and AOL.

The pop star has come under fire this year (06) for her questionable parenting skills and her incessant partying since filing for divorce from Kevin Federline in early November (06) and scooped 29 per cent of the votes.

Spears' partying pal Hilton followed in second place with 18 per cent of votes, while Mel Gibson came third with 12 per cent following his July arrest for drink-driving and anti-Semitic attack against the arresting officer.

Other names in the top 10 Worst Celebrity Role Models include Tom Cruise, Michael Richards, Nicole Richie, Federline, Lindsay Lohan and Angelina Jolie.

Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey narrowly beat Michael J Fox to the Best Celebrity Role Model title, with 29 per cent votes to his 23 per cent.

US President George W Bush was voted both Bad Guy Of 2006 and Good Guy Of 2006.

The ˇVolver˘ actress says she is tired of all the attention surrounding her looks and would much rather be admired for her acting talents.

Penelope, 32, said:

I don˘t pay attention to people calling me sexy. It makes me nervous when people start using labels. It˘s boring.
